Inspiring inclusion through mentorship, sponsorship and the work we do at Pure

Every International Women’s Day invites us to reflect on progress, possibility and the power of collective action. This year’s theme, Inspire Inclusion, resonates deeply with the work we do through the Women’s Leadership Programme — a programme designed not just to develop individual leaders, but to reshape the environments they work in.

Across every cohort, we see the same truth: when women are supported, championed and included, they don’t just grow—they transform. And that transformation ripples across teams, organisations and the wider business community.

WHY MENTORSHIP AND SPONSORSHIP ARE AT THE HEART OF OUR PROGRAMME

One of the most intentional elements of our programme is the pairing of each participant with a dedicated sponsor. This isn’t symbolic. It’s structural.

Women repeatedly tell us that having someone who actively advocates for them—who opens doors, amplifies their voice and provides honest, grounded feedback challenging them to step into their potential—has been one of the most significant accelerators in their career.

Mentorship offers guidance.
Sponsorship offers opportunity.
Together, they create momentum.

We see this every year: participants who arrive unsure of their next step leave with clarity, confidence and a champion behind them. And as they progress, many become mentors themselves, continuing the cycle of “giving to gain” that strengthens our whole community.

As powerful as the structure of mentorship and sponsorship is, its real impact is best understood through the voices of the women who experience it. One of those voices is Tania Mahmood, a current delegate on our Women’s Leadership Programme. Her journey reflects exactly what happens when support, belief and opportunity come together at the right moment.

“Having a mentor so early in my career has shown me that when we champion inclusion, we unlock potential that might otherwise go unseen. Having someone in your corner who believes in you before you fully believe in yourself is one of the most powerful gifts you can receive.

Mentorship isn’t just guidance — it’s being seen, valued and encouraged to step into spaces you may never have entered alone. The support of a mentor has truly accelerated my professional and personal development, and shaped the trajectory of my career.”

WHAT WE HEAR FROM WOMEN AND WHAT TRULY 'UNBLOCKS' THEM

Through coaching, workshops, speaker sessions and peer learning, we hear consistent themes from women across different industries.

1. Prioritising self care as a leadership strategy

Many women enter the programme carrying the invisible load—professionally and personally. When they learn to set boundaries, protect their energy and invest in their wellbeing, their leadership becomes more sustainable and more authentic.

2. Having a mentor or sponsor who genuinely has their back

This is one of the most transformative aspects of the programme. Women thrive when they feel supported, challenged and championed by someone who believes in their potential.

3. Letting go of the pressure to have all the answers

Our speakers often remind participants that leadership is not about perfection. It’s about curiosity, collaboration and courage. When women release the expectation to “know everything”, they create space for innovation and shared problem solving.

4. Embracing vulnerability as a superpower

Across sessions, we see how powerful it is when women show up as their full selves. Vulnerability builds trust. It deepens connection. It inspires inclusion. And it gives others permission to do the same.

5. Reframing confidence as something you build, not something you’re born with

Through coaching and practice, participants learn that confidence grows through action, feedback and support. It’s a skill—one that strengthens every time they step forward.

HOW OUR PROGRAMME HELPS INSPIRE INCLUSION

Inclusion isn’t a one day conversation. It’s a culture. And our programme is designed to build that culture from the inside out.

We do this by:

  • Creating a safe, supportive space for women to explore their leadership identity
  • Equipping them with tools to navigate bias, barriers and organisational dynamics
  • Connecting them with senior leaders who advocate for their progression
  • Building a community of women who lift each other up
  • Encouraging honest conversations about the realities of leadership

When women feel included, they lead differently. They collaborate differently. They influence differently. And they create environments where others feel able to thrive too.

A CALL TO ACTION FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women who have been part of our programme—their courage, their growth and the impact they are making across the industry.

But we also celebrate the leaders who mentor, sponsor and champion them. Inclusion is not passive. It’s intentional. And it requires all of us.

Let’s continue to inspire inclusion by:

  • Sponsoring women into stretch opportunities
  • Recognising and removing barriers
  • Creating space for honest conversations
  • Celebrating women’s achievements loudly and publicly
  • Investing in programmes that develop and elevate women leaders

Because when women rise, the whole industry rises with them.
