What is your role in Pure Executive?
I’m based in Pure’s Chelmsford office and I lead on the recruitment and placement of Executive level Accountancy and Finance roles across Essex. My main focus is recruiting Chief Financial Officers, Finance Directors and Financial Controllers, and my clients range from privately owned to investment backed and public limited companies.
Why do you specialise in finance roles and the Essex market in particular?
I’ve spent my career working in finance-related roles and in supporting businesses across Essex. I’m proud to be able to add significant value to our recruitment expertise with my knowledge and understanding of the local market, which I’ve built up over the past twenty years.
What is your career history?
I started my career in banking with RBS Group and Lombard Asset Finance. From there I was introduced to Clydesdale Bank plc, where I spent the best part of ten years as an Asset Finance Specialist and Business Partner, supporting a range of privately-owned businesses across the county. These companies varied from £5m to £150m in turnover and industries including construction, manufacturing, logistics and wholesale, to name just a few. Following the recession in the late 2000s, I was approached by one of my clients to assist them in growing the business and developing their finance function. During a successful four-year period, the business grew from £3m to £10m and I led its expansion into China and the United States, along with acquiring and investing in businesses in both the UK and Europe.
When did you join Pure?
In 2015, I was introduced to Pure by a mutual contact. I joined the Accountancy and Finance recruitment team in Chelmsford to help drive business growth across Essex.
What is important to you when working with clients?
I believe in working in partnership with my clients and candidates, an ethos shared by all the Pure Executive team. It enables us to deliver the best possible solutions, provide the best possible service and is also paramount to building long term, mutually beneficial relationships.
What is your biggest career achievement to date at Pure Executive?
There isn’t one single achievement which particularly stands out in my mind. For me, it’s the times when I feel I’ve really been able to support the client and make a big difference to the process of finding the best possible candidate, which give me the greatest satisfaction. For example, I love working with small, owner-managed businesses when they are looking to recruit a number one finance role for the very first time. I feel I can truly add value to the process and hold the hand of the client throughout what can sometimes be a lengthy recruit.
