Award winning examples of a successful employee engagement strategy

Are you always looking for interesting insights into how organisations have developed successful employee engagement strategies? Take some inspiration from Epos Now, Norfolk’s vibrant young tech start up business which has just been crowned the 2016 Employer of the Year at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards.

Here at Pure we are always proud to be asked to sponsor this particular award and we find the judges visits to the shortlisted organisations truly inspiring. Our aim is to support local organisations in sourcing, developing and retaining top talent to help achieve organisational growth. This award always showcases the exceptional examples of local companies which are already achieving amazing success by putting employees at the heart of the business.

Here’s just some of the reasons why we believe 2016 winners Epos Now is a business Norfolk should be proud of, and one which displays many facets of a great workplace of the future.

An inspiring workspace

Despite a current shortage of space, while the premises are being extended, Epos Now has developed a creative space where people want to be. There are areas designed for people to break away from their desks and to think, problem solve and come up with new ideas. There’s also plenty of fun spaces, including table tennis and pool tables, where the team can relax and let off steam. And, as is apt for a tech-based company, there is plenty of technology and gamification designed to engage staff throughout the working day.

People-orientated culture

The work hard, play hard atmosphere at Epos Now is evident as soon as you walk in the door. There is a distinct culture where work is fun, combined with a very people-orientated and open approach. Despite its continued growth, everything still feels very personal, which is absolutely right for the industry sector. The people we met were passionate about the company and this means they are acting as excellent ambassadors for the business. You only have to look at the company’s rating on Glassdoor to see how current staff are sharing their positive experiences and strengthening the organisation’s employer brand.

 Exceptional development opportunities

Epos Now shows a clear commitment to growing its people at the same time as expanding the business. It invests heavily in its employees, who are being developed fast and given early responsibility. There is a clear focus from the leadership and management team in encouraging staff to take responsibility for their objectives, plans and personal development. The organisation is also committed to providing excellent career opportunities for up-and-coming talent in the local community. It has developed close links with the University of East Anglia and has hired over half of its software team via internships.

Strong leadership and management

It is very easy to believe in the passionate leadership team at Epos Now. There has also been significant investment in developing a management team which is able to guide and support teams to success. Managers provide very specific feedback within an encouraging and supportive environment. This highly supportive approach has helped to develop a strong culture of team work and a real ‘can-do’ attitude across the board.
