May Moonwalking

Seven determined women from Cambridge have tackled four months of gruelling weekend walks in preparation for the MoonWalk London midnight marathon on Saturday 12 May.

The fund raising team is made up of recruitment experts from Pure Resourcing Solutions in Cambridge. They will be putting their best foot forward for the MoonWalk London 2012, organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.

The Pure Ladies team consists of Jade Garner, Caroline Batchelor, Gill Buchanan, Katherine Parkin, Jen Little, Joanna Bromwich and Susan Bellamy. The group has been getting in plenty of preparation ahead of the event. They are determined to make the many people who have already sponsored them, and helped them smash their original fundraising target, proud.

With a little extra help from three dutiful dogs, who have helped pull their owners and friends across weekend rambles along the bank of the River Cam, the team are fighting fit and ready for the 26.2 mile power walk challenge.

Caroline Batchelor said:

'We've all been training since January. With the event just around the corner we are all trying to make sure we are now walking every day. We've only got one more weekend before we will be in London and we've planned to do a 15 mile walk. We're aiming for a pace of about four miles an hour on the night itself. In training we have been averaging about three and half miles an hour, but that is across some rough terrain and we do sometimes get veered off course by the dogs trying to chase rabbits!'

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Walk the Walk event, this year's MoonWalk will have a rock and roll theme. Over 17,000 women and men will unite against breast cancer by Rockin' Around the World as they power walk the marathon route wearing the event's trademark theme of decorated bras.

'This is the first year we have taken the challenge,' added Caroline. 'We have tried to enter before but this year was the first time we have succeeded in getting a place. It's fitting that we will be taking part in a special anniversary year. We have anniversaries on our mind here in the office as in September Pure Resourcing Solutions will be celebrating its own ten year anniversary.

We've been delighted with the support we have received so far. We originally set a target of raising £700 but we have already smashed that and raised over £1,200 for this fantastic cause. We've now increased our target to £1,500. Now we just have to put the finishing touches to our costumes of leg warmers, tutus and bras decorated with records to match the theme!'

MoonWalk London, organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, raises funds to support research into breast cancer and organisations which provide emotional and physical support to those living with cancer now.
