I am currently partnering with a global technology organisation based just north of Cambridge supporting their search for an experienced Senior Linux Systems Administrator. The company is constantly growing and is looking for an experienced individual to join their technical team. Background:

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Senior Linux Systems Administrator will define the future of the companies Linux compute environment. As the role is a member of the Infrastructure team, the role holder will work on a variety of enterprise technologies including NIS/LDAP, Docker, Virtualisation and NFS/Network Attached Storage - with opportunities to enhance existing technical skills and develop new ones that may include AWS as a future business platform


Key Tasks:

  • Define technology roadmaps for core IT services
  • Contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
  • Implement enhancement to existing technologies
  • Research, evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Provide business-as-usual / break-fix support for solutions deployed within Sepura, ensuring that requests logged via the Service Desk platform are completed based on impact and priority (this will make up 30% of the role)
  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s) and resolution(s) of issues
  • Create, review and maintain system documentation
  • Strong teamworking and provision of guidance/support to junior team members

Experience Required:

  • Ubuntu Linux system administration (NIS, LDAP, DNS, Email, Proxy)
  • Automation (Puppet/Foreman)
  • NFS/Network Attached Storage
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Proxy and web filtering
  • Virtualisation/Container technologies
  • Bash/Python scripting skills
  • License management (flexnet)
  • Wireless infrastructure (preferably Aruba)
  • Cisco networking
  • Management of firewall technologies
  • Backup technologies Veeam/NetVault
  • Understanding of industry trends and emerging threats
  • Experience of interpreting information from security analysis tools
  • Access control and threat mitigation
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
