A new role has arisen working for a high growth privately owned business to recruit for their first Head of HR role to be based at their Head Office in Bishop’s Stortford.
The role is with a well-established retail business with locations around the South East and South of England that has invested heavily over the past few years to support growth and enhanced performance.
With a strong focus on brand values and internal culture the business consistently invests in it’s own people to offer an exceptional customer experience they can be proud off.
The business is just starting a new exciting phase in its growth that will see the business double in size over the next couple of years and diversify it’s offering in the marketplace.

The Head of HR will have overall responsibility for all people related activity across the organisation.  Working as part of the Senior Leadership team ensuring that a robust and effective people strategy and plan is in place to support the overall commercial objectives of the organisation.

This role will have responsibility for the delivery of all aspects of the HR service to the business in key areas such as training, development, engagement, recruitment, performance management, employee relations and HR administration. 
Key duties and responsibilities include;
  • Lead and develop the HR team, ensuring that the team provides a best-in-class HR service to the business
  • Develop and implement an effective people strategy and plan for the organisation
  • Strategic input, driving forward the company’s vision
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process
  • Review, recommend and implement employment policies to ensure they meet the legislative requirements and support the business goals
  • Support the Company’s growth, objectives and development of the people strategy
  • Develop, support and deliver employee engagement and change management programs across the organisation
  • Provide the effective development systems for identifying development needs and implementing effective training solutions for all employees (appraisals, succession planning and talent management)
  • Collate and analyse data on key HR performance indicators and propose actions for improvement
  • Manage Complex Employee Relations issues – ensuring all issues are dealt with accurately and in line with company policy.
  • Define the Reward Strategy and initiatives, including salary and bonus reviews
  • Work with managers on identifying training needs across all departments and provide coaching and support on solutions to those development gaps
  • Work with the leadership team on due diligence for any potential acquisitions
  • Lead and advise on TUPE Transfers
  • Advise on and minimise risk to the business on all employee relations matters
  • Development Store Managers capability across the organisation
  • Develop robust fit for purpose training and development programs
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement
Key skill, experience and qualifications required;
  • Proven experience in a Senior HR leadership role within a commercial organisation
  • Experience of working within a multi-site organisation
  • Strong knowledge of UK Employment law
  • Ideally degree educated and / or CIPD Qualified or equivalent
  • Experience of M&A activity and TUPE
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrable people development skills
  • Culture champion for the business
  • Experience in using training platforms in a multi-site environment
