We have an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Lead to join and established business in Felixstowe on a 2 year fixed term contract.

Key requirements of the role;

• Supporting the Head of Health and Safety
• Line manager for Shift Safety Managers
• Attend serious incidents and subsequently investigate the causes
• Review accident reports and investigations carried out by others
• Develop and review Safe Codes of Practice, Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments
• Manage COSHH assessments, and make recommendations for control of exposure to hazardous substances
• Carry out measurements and make recommendations on occupational noise and vibration exposure
• Monitor and approve PPE, hazardous substances, plant and equipment used by the port in consideration of the relevant legislation in each case
• Develop, manage and run the internal and external audit programme including carrying out internal audit and inspections
• Review supplier documentation as part of pre-contract evaluation and post-contract including where applicable compliance with CDM
• Prepare and submit the HPUK monthly and quarterly accident returns

Experience and Skills;

• NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or degree in health and safety or related subject
• Experience in Health and Safety in a docks or equivalent heavy engineering or process industry
• Up to date knowledge of cargo handling activities, emergency plans, current legislation and guidance
• A working knowledge of environmental legislation and practices desirable
• Lead auditor 18001, (45001)
• Car driving licence
• Experience of rail operations desirable
• Experience in managing people
• Ability to make complex judgements and decisions in assessing risk
• Strong communication and influencing skills to liaise with relevant internal departments and external Government bodies.
