Salary£40000 - £51500 per annum
With a £300m building project under way to create a new state-of-the-art research and teaching facility, these are exciting times at the Cavendish Laboratory (University of Cambridge's Department of Physics). With the anticipation of modernised buildings and working conditions comes a desire to augment the role the Finance function plays in managing its c.£45m income, (including £28m of grant income).
The Finance Manager will play a central role in delivering a business partnering approach; providing critical advice to budget holders as well as strategic insights to the Head of Department and Cavendish Board.
You will create models that will scrutinise high volumes of data and produce quality management information to track and measure output and impact of research activity.
This role oversees the work of 7 in finance plus a further 3 in allied functions, so leadership experience is important to ensure the delivery of the day to day financial management. You will however be expected to focus your attention scanning the horizon and undertaking strategic thinking to support the senior management team.
Strong influencing and communications skills are a pre-requisite for this role in order to be credible amongst a leadership team of eminent, world-leading scientists.
