The Tax Department provides a comprehensive tax advisory, tax reporting and tax compliance service to the business, covering both direct taxes for the Norwich operation and indirect taxes for the wider UK Group;
There is a substantial department of over 20 tax professionals. Reporting to the Director of Tax the UK Employee Taxes Manager will provide tax technical advice on a wide range of employee tax issues. These can include assessing and advising on impacts of new UK legislation, the consequences of secondments into and out of the UK, and working with the Reward team in relation to flexible benefits and pensions. As appropriate working with the Group tax technical director on challenging and high-profile matters. Part of the role will include people management responsibility for an employee tax advisor.
The role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved with HMRC and Treasury consultations to influence legislation, keeping up to date with proposed and published amendments, interpreting them for the business and providing proactive practical tax advice. This is an opportunity to work with senior professionals both in tax and the wider business, with the chance to influence as well as react to the outcome.
Professional, externally sourced tax training is provided regularly for all members of the tax department to ensure they keep up to date with technical developments in addition to an in house programme and numerous formal and informal opportunities to learn about the business.
Duties will include
• Review and/ or preparation of non- payroll income tax, NIC and CIS returns of the UK group, timely and accurate reporting to HMRC • Drafting responses to HMRC enquiries for Director sign off • Providing UK employee tax advice to the business units as required • Managing and developing an appropriate UK employee tax risk control framework • Working collaboratively with HR reward to provide support and guidance across a range of initiatives to enhance employee benefits provision • Maintenance of Group dispensations from HMRC to reflect commercial and legislative change.
Candidates will be Qualified tax or legal specialists with appropriate experience in UK employee taxes. Having significant experience of advising a large business on UK employment tax issues. Strong technical tax ability and communication skills. Able to work with credibility and discretion. The role is based in the Norwich office, but there will be a business need to travel to other locations in the UK occasionally.
